ID:	8698A fifth-grade boy in Georgia went through the terror of his life as he says that he was confronted by a police officer who pulled a gun out on him. Omari Grant, an 11-year old who was building a tree house with his friends, says that a neighbor called police on the boys for what they were doing. However, the neighbor was only calling the police out of fear for the safety of the children, not for them to be terrorized. But the little boy had no idea what was going to happen after that.
“I guess the release of tension was like, ‘Mom, he had a gun in my face, Mommy. Mommy, he had a gun in my face,’” said Janice Baptiste, Omari’s mother, according to
When Henry County police officers walked the boy home, it was after they’d scared him half to death. He says that the officers rolled up on the boys while they were building the tree fort behind his house. He also says that the officer cussed at him and told the boys to lay down on the ground like criminals.
“So my son was of course traumatized by that,” Baptiste said. Edgar Dillard, a man whose wife called police and said that the boys were pulling off tree limbs, says that the couple was stunned to hear about the officers and their drastic actions.
“Yeah, that’s pretty shocking to hear that a gun was pulled on a child,” Dillard said.
“There were falling hazards, tripping hazards, all types of hazards, so No. 1 was concern for the children and concern for the environment,” Dillard said.
Baptiste has filed a complaint of excessive force against the officers involved. She says that her son is a superstar student and that she won’t tolerate this kind of behavior from officers. She also says that the officer came to the house with a “I’m big and bad” attitude, which wasn’t called for in the situation at hand.
“If it was justified then we’ll deal with it, if it wasn’t we’ll address it as well,” said Sgt. Joey Smith with the Henry County Police Department.

I remember a time when adults , having concern for children or the actions of those children, would go first to the parents of those children to express their concerns and not involve such a drastic choice as calling police from the outset. These people wanted bad things to happen to these children from the beginning...period. Why else involve the police?

Environmental concerns? (bull$%it!) They were building a treehouse for goodness sakes (something 'creative' children have done from time immemorial) and not fracking for oil!

And now, that 11 yr old baby has had his first experience with having been demeaned by a system he'll not soon forget is psychotic and hates him! Hmm but maybe that's a good thing....he'll learn early who his 'friends' are.....or at least aren't.

So now the 'tattle-tales' are appalled? Yeah right. Wonder how they'd feel after having a gun pulled in their face.

That was a horrible thing for that child to experience. The neighbor should be more than ashamed, and the officer should consider another line of work. If you are so scared that you have to have your gun ready to pull on an 11 year old child, then you don't belong on the force.

SMH. Post 9/11 paranoia coupled with race based paranoia, EVERYTHING IS A THREAT! even children.

This is why ridiculous stuff like this is no joke, you can get somebody killed when you call the police for non life threatening situation.

the neighbor was only calling the police out of fear for the safety of the children, not for them to be terrorized
she doesn't even under/overstand her fear for their safety also JEOPARDIZED the safety the children!!!

Like Roarin said she should have checked with the parents if it was all that.
